Nutrition

Before beginning to train for an endurance sport the endurance athlete must focus on his or her nutrition. Without proper nutrition the athlete is unable to prolong the activities for more than an hour. Most scientific studies show that nutrition intakes are not the same for everyone but one must have enough of daily intakes of carbohydrates, protein, and fluid. Most studies specifically find that "carbohydrate loading" which is the process of fueling the body with a lot of carbs can significantly increase the endurance of an athlete. An example is in the study The effect of a high carbohydrate diet on running performance during a 30-km treadmill time trialdone by Clyde Williams, John Brewer, and Moya Walker where they examined a controlled group of runners who were not on a high carb diet compared to a group that was; with results showing that being on a high carb diet decreased their finishing times in a good way!!
